Per request from The Task Force of Global Health in Decatur, GA I was asked to help with a project under the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation on mapping the NTDs lymphatic filariasis and onchocerciasis in Muheza, Tanzania. I looked at the joint distribution of infected humans with the location of black flies and mosquitoes. Excel was used to compile the dataset and create incidence variables per village. ArcGIS was used to create digitized river and swamp features, buffers of maximum fly travel distance, high-need bednet regions, and NTD joint distribution maps as they related to location, elevation and sensitivity/specificity between comparing tests for the NTDs.
Other projects include hydrology flow, NVDI calculations, remote sensing techniques, contouring, kernel estimators, and distance optimization.
